Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory Coming to Blu-ray October 20, 2009
Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory Blu-ray Book Blu-ray 1971
A musical film adaptation of Dahl’s book Charlie & the Chocolate Factory, directed by Mel Stuart and starring Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka, was released in 1971.[1] It was originally a box office flop, but has since come to be considered a classic, hailed a children’s classic by critics, and has attracted a worldwide audience.
This film added some dialogue with references to poetry, including Shakespeare, that were not in the novel. The film also included a rival chocolate maker offering the children money if they betrayed Wonka and provided him with an ‘Everlasting Gobstopper‘, but this turns out to be a morality test set by Wonka to determine the finder’s worth. Another departure from the novel had Charlie disobeying Willy Wonka with the encouragement of Grandpa Joe, allowing Wonka to deny Charlie’s prize at the end of the tour. Also, Veruca Salt’s “elimination” involved a room full of golden-egg-laying geese of which she wanted one. When she went to stand on one of the egg-testing machines, she was pronounced a “bad egg” and dropped down the garbage chute. This is different from the book (and 2005 film) where Veruca went after a squirrel, got tested by a squirrel, and thrown down the garbage chute by the squirrels because “her head sounded hollow.” http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/

The Boys Are Back (PG-13) in theaters 9/25/2009
Cast: Clive Owen, Emma Booth, Laura Fraser
The Boys Are Back
Inspired by a true story, The Boys Are Back is a deeply moving, wryly confessional tale of fatherhood, that intimately evokes both the fragility and wonders of family life. It follows a witty, wisecracking, action-oriented sportswriter (Academy Award® nominee and Golden Globe® winner CLIVE OWEN) who, in the wake of his wife’s tragic death, finds himself in a sudden, stultifying state of single parenthood. With turbulent emotions swirling just below the surface, Joe Warr throws himself into the only child-rearing philosophy he thinks has a shot at bringing joy back into their lives: “just say yes.” Raising two boys ? a curious six year-old (NICHOLAS MCANULTY) and a rebel teen (GEORGE MACKAY) from a previous marriage — in a household devoid of feminine influence, and with an unabashed lack of rules, life becomes exuberant, instinctual, reckless . . . and on the constant verge of disaster.
United by unspoken love, conflicted by fierce feelings and in search of a road forward, the three multi-generational boys of the Warr household, father and sons alike, must each find their own way, however tenuous, to grow up. Their story is not just about the transforming power of a family crisis — but the unavoidable grace of everyday life and love that gets them through.

Blind Date (NR) in Theaters 9/25/2009
Cast: Stanley Tucci, Patricia Clarkson, Georgina Verbaan
Blind Date
Stanley Tucci returns to directing with this English-language remake of Theo Van Gogh’s award winning 1996 Dutch film. Blind Date is the story of an estranged couple (Tucci, starring and directing, and Patricia Clarkson) who are desperately trying to reconcile after the tragic death of their daughter. Unable to face either their grief or each other, they go a series of blind dates, each placing personal ads in the paper and pretending to be strangers when they meet. They do this over and over again, playing a series of different roles, in an attempt to overcome the pain and rebuild their shattered relationship.
When controversial filmmaker Theo van Gogh was shot and killed in cold blood in 2004 by a religious fundamentalist angered over the portrayal of Islam in one of his short films, the idea to remake three of his favorite films in English, with Hollywood stars, was born. This is the second film in said trilogy, after Steve Buscemi’s Interview.
