Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (PG-13)

Cast: Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox, John Turturro

Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen

Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen

It is disclosed that millenia ago there had been a race of traditional Transformers who scoured the universe looking for energon sources.

Known as the Dynasty of Primes, they used machines called Sun Harvesters to empty stars of their energy to change it to energon and power Cybertron’s AllSpark. The Primes concluded that life-bearing worlds would be spared, but in seventeen thousand BC, one brother, afterward dubbed “The Fallen”, built a Sun Harvester on Earth.

While on a mission in Shanghai, Optimus and his team destroy Decepticons Sideways and Demolishor, being given an alert by the latter that “The Fallen will rise again”. Back in the US, Sam Witwicky uncovers a chip of the demolished AllSpark, and on contact the chip fills his mind with Cybertronian symbols. Deeming it deadly, Sam gives the AllSpark chip to his squeeze Mikaela Banes for safe keeping, and leaves her and Bumblebee behind to go off to university.

Decepticon Wheelie attempts to thieve the shard, only to get caught by Mikaela. After having a psychological breakdown, uncontrollably writing in Cybertronian language, Sam calls Mikaela, who straight away leaves to get to him. Decepticon Soundwave hacks into a US satellite and learns the locations of the dead Decepticon leader Megatron and another piece of the AllSpark. The Decepticons retrieve the shard and use it to revive Megatron, who flies into space and is brought together with Starscream and his master, The Fallen. The Fallen teaches Megatron and Starscream to capture Sam to discover the situation of the Matrix of Leadership. The Decepticon known as “The Doctor” gets ready to remove Sam’s brain, but Optimus and Bumblebee turn up and rescue him. In an ensuing fight, Optimus engages Megatron, Grindor and Starscream. Optimus manages to kill Grindor and rip off Starscream’s arm, but he is at last impaled thru the chest by Megatron and dies.

After Prime’s death, The Fallen is liberated from his captivity and Megatron orders a full-scale attack in the world. The Fallen talks to the world and demands they surrender Sam to the Decepticons or they’ll continue their attack. Sam, Mikaela, Leo, Bumblebee, the twins and Wheelie regroup, and Leo advises his online rival “RoboWarrior” might be of help.

“RoboWarrior” is made public to be previous Sector seven agent Simmons, who alerts the group the symbols should be articulate for a Decepticon.

Mikaela then releases Wheelie, who can’t read the language, but identifying it as that of the Primes, directs the group to a Decepticon seeker named Jetfire. They then find Jetfire at the F Udvar-Hazy Center and reactivate him. By following the clues, the group arrive at the crypt where they finally find the Matrix, but it crumbles to dust in Sam’s hands. Believing the Matrix can still revive Optimus, Sam collects the dust and teaches Simmons to call Major William Lennox to bring the other Autobots and Optimus’ body. The army arrives with the Autobots, but so do the Decepticons, and a battle arises. Jetfire arrives and destroys Mixmaster, but is mortally hurt by Scorponok. The Air Force carpet bomb the Decepticons, but Megatron breaks thru the offensive and kills Sam. The Matrix is assembled from the dust, and Sam uses it to revive Optimus. The Fallen then takes the Matrix and turns on the Sun Harvester. In his last moments, Jetfire volunteers his parts and spark to Optimus. With reinforced capacities, Optimus destroys the Sun Harvester and takes on Megatron and The Fallen, slaughtering the second. Sam then eventually reciprocates Mikaela’s love as Megatron and Starscream retreat and promise that their fight isn’t finished. The film ends with Optimus sending a message into space exclaiming the humans and Transformers both share a standard past. (source)

Set in 1900s Belle Époque Paris, Cheri tells the story of the end of a six-year affair between an aging retired courtesan, Léa, and aflamboyant young man, Fred, nicknamed “Chéri” (“Dear”). Turning stereotypes upside-down, it is Chéri who wears silk pyjamas and Léa’s pearls, and who is the object of gaze. The two believe their relationship is casual until they are separated by Chéri’s marriage at which point they realize they are in love. They spend a miserable nine months apart, at which point Chéri appears at Léa’s home. They spend the night together and Léa begins to plan their new life together. However, when she learns that Chéri had returned for the moral strength to be a husband, she releases him to return home. The final scene shows Cheri leaving Lea’s home to walk down the street towards his home. Lea returns to her vanity table to gaze at herself in the mirror. The narrator cuts in that after many years Cheri will realize that Lea was the only woman he could ever love, but she was too old for him. Cheri will kill himself after this realization. (source)

New DVD Releases This Week 10/6/2009

Catch a sneak peak at new movie releases on DVD for this week on 10/6/2009. Featuring: My Life in Ruins (PG-13), Imagine That (PG), & Year One (PG-13),

My Life in Ruins (PG-13) Available on DVD This week

Cast: Nia Vardalos, Richard Dreyfuss, Harland Williams

My Life in Ruins

My Life in Ruins

My Life in Ruins is a romantic comedy film set amongst the ruins of ancient Greece, starring Nia Vardalos, Richard Dreyfuss, Alexis Georgoulis, Rachel Dratch, Harland Williams and British comedy actor and impressionist Alistair McGowan. The film is about a tour guide whose life takes a personal detour, while her group gets entangled in comic situations among the ruins, with a series of unexpected stops along the way.

Georgia (Nia Vardalos) is a Greek American tour guide who is leading a tour around Greece with an assorted group of misfit tourists who would rather buy a T-shirt than learn about history and culture. In a clash of personalities and cultures, everything seems to go wrong, until one day when older traveller Irv Gordon (Richard Dreyfuss), shows her how to have fun, and to take a good look at the last person she would ever expect to find love with: her Greek bus driver (Alexis Georgoulis).

Year One (PG-13) Available on DVD This Week

Cast: Jack Black, Michael Cera, Olivia Wilde

Year One

Year One

Year One is a 2009 comedy film directed by Harold Ramis, and produced by Judd Apatow. The film stars Jack Black and Michael Cera, and features Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Hank Azaria. The film was released in North America on June 19, 2009 by Columbia Pictures. The film was originally rated R for some sexual content and language but now it’s rating is PG-13 for crude and sexual content throughout, brief strong language and comic violence. (source)

Several critics panned the film for being similar to Mel Brooks’s History of the World, Part I. Michael Phillips of the Chicago Tribune gave the film a “fair-good” review of 2.5/4 stars stating that “Year One won’t join his list of essential comedies, the ones Ramis helped create as writer, director, performer or combination thereof.” Claudia Puig of USA Today gave the film 2/4 stars complaining that the film “is scattershot and silly, squandering its potential by relying on juvenile bawdy humor”. Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times gave the film 1 star out of 4, stating that the film “is a dreary experience, and all the ending accomplishes is to bring it to a close”. Kyle Smith of the New York Post gave the film 1.5 stars out of 5 saying it was “mediocre at best.(source)

Zed (Jack Black) is a hunter and Oh (Michael Cera) is a gatherer. After being informed that Zed ate from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, the shaman banishes him from the tribe. Oh decides to go with Zed on his journey to find the end of the Earth. Along the way, they encounter Cain and Abel (David Cross and Paul Rudd). Cain kills Abel and informs Zed and Oh that they must escape with him or else be accused of killing Abel.[2]

Afterwards, Zed and Oh find that the girls they wanted to “lay with” (Maya and Eema) from their former tribe have been captured and are being sold into slavery. They try to buy the girls’ freedom, but Cain ends up selling Zed and Oh. While being taken to a village by the owner with all the other slaves from their tribe, Sodomites attack and take the slaves prisoner, though Zed and Oh escape and hide in the desert, watching the Sodomites.

The next morning, Zed and Oh discover that the Sodomites have left with the slaves. They head off to save the slaves. They come to a mountain and find Abraham (Hank Azaria) about to kill his son Isaac (Christopher Mintz-Plasse). Zed stops them, claiming that the Lord sent him to do so. Abraham takes them to his Hebrew village and tells them about the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah.

Zed and Oh head off for Sodom after Abraham offers to circumcise them. As they arrive in Sodom, they are captured. Cain, now a Sodomite soldier, saves them from being tortured, calling them “his brothers.” The two recalled that they were sold by Cain as slaves and Cain apologizes and offers them food. While being given a tour of the city by Cain, Zed and Oh see the princess, who is starving herself because she feels guilty that everyone else in the city is starving. That night, at a party, Zed is invited by the princess to talk with her.

Inside the palace, Zed sees Maya and Eema serving as slaves, while Oh is forced to follow the very effeminate high priest around the palace. Zed meets the princess and she asks him to enter the Holy of Holies and tell her what it is like, thinking that Zed is the “Chosen One.” Inside the temple, Zed encounters Oh, who is hiding from the high priest. There, they get into a heated argument and are then imprisoned for going inside the temple. The two are sentenced to be stoned to death but Zed convinces the Sodomites to have mercy, so they are instead sentenced to hard labor until they die from work. The king then announces that he will be sacrificing his daughter and two virgins (Maya and Eema) as a gift to the gods.

Zed interrupts the ceremony, claiming he is the “Chosen One.” A riot starts and Oh saves Eema. The two have sexual intercourse inside the palace in order that Eema would not be sacrificed and then come out to help Zed fight the soldiers (including Cain). The crowd kills all the leaders and proclaim Zed as the Leader being the “Chosen One”. Zed turns this down and instead becomes an explorer with Maya. Oh becomes the leader of the village where the whole adventure started. The two say their goodbyes and head their separate ways.
