Black Dynamite
Black Dynamite, starring Michael Jai White, is a spoof of blaxploitation films of the 1970s. Its premiere was at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival, where Sony Worldwide Acquisitions picked it up for distribution. A release date of October 16, 2009 has been announced on the film’s official Twitter feed. On August 25, 2009, it was announced that Apparition, a new distributor headed by Bill Pohlad and Bob Berney, would handle the film’s domestic release.
Black Dynamite is directed by Scott Sanders and co-written by White, Sanders, and Byron Minns, who also co-star. The look of the film is a retro homage to all of the blaxploitation movies of the seventies, but unlike Grindhouse (Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino’s exploitation homage) Black Dynamite does not employ “fake scratches or digitally generated retro deterioration”, according to director Scott Sanders. The cinematographer Shawn Maurer tested a Super 16 Color Reversal Kodak film stock to get the high contrast and saturated look for the movie. The film has been discussed with approval on numerous movie-related websites.(source)

Law Abiding Citizen
Law Abiding Citizen is a 2009 drama/thriller film directed by F. Gary Gray from a screenplay written by Kurt Wimmer, and starring Jamie Foxx and Gerard Butler. The film takes place in Philadelphia and tells the story of Clyde Shelton (Butler), a man who decides to exact revenge on his family’s killers, as well as the criminal justice system. Law Abiding Citizen was released theatrically in North America on October 16, 2009. The film is rated R for strong bloody brutal violence and torture, a scene of rape, and pervasive language.
After a home invasion, Clyde Shelton (Butler), a top-notch former spy, now retired, is told that one of the criminals who killed his wife and daughter would get off, due to his cooperation with the district attorney’s office, and the other would be put on death row. Shelton seeks revenge, not just against the criminals, but the entire justice system. He is quickly captured, but Nick Rice (Foxx), a corrupt D.A. who got one of the murderers off, quickly realizes that prison isn’t enough to keep Shelton from killing those who kept the criminals from getting the sentence they deserved.(source)

New York, I Love You
New York, I Love You is a 2009 romance film released in the United States on October 16, 2009. From the producer of Paris, je t’aime, it stars an ensemble cast, among them Shia LaBeouf, Natalie Portman, Hayden Christensen, Blake Lively, Orlando Bloom, Chris Cooper, Andy Garcia, Christina Ricci, Robin Wright Penn, Julie Christie and Ethan Hawke. The film premiered at the 2008 Toronto International Film Festival in September 2008.
New York, I Love You is a collective work of eleven short films, with each segment running around 10 minutes long. Some of the actors have international status (Natalie Portman, Shia LaBeouf, Hayden Christensen, Orlando Bloom), with each shooting their part in one of New York’s five boroughs. Similar to the previous film, Paris, je t’aime, the shorts presented together will not relate but will all tie into the common theme of finding love.(source)

Stepfather
The Stepfather is the 2009 remake of the 1987 American thriller film of the same name
Michael Harding (Penn Badgley) returns home from military school to find his mother Susan (Sela Ward), happily in love with a man known as David Harris (Dylan Walsh). He seems like the perfect father and husband to everyone – except Michael, who suspects that he isn’t quite the man he seems to be.[1]
Along with his girlfriend Kelly (Amber Heard), his biological father Jay (Jon Tenney), and Susan’s friends (Paige Turco and Sherry Stringfield), they slowly start to piece together the mystery of the man who is set to become his stepfather, but they may be too late in getting to the truth. (source)

Where the Wild Things Are
Where the Wild Things Are is a 1963 children’s picture book by American writer Maurice Sendak, originally published by Harper & Row. The book is about the wild adventure of a boy named Max who is sent to his room without his supper by his mother as punishment for misbehaving. Max wears a distinctive wolf costume during his adventures and encounters various strange creatures, the “wild things”. The book has been adapted into other media several times, including an animated short, an opera, and, in 2009, a live-action feature film adaptation. As of 2008, the book has sold over 19 million copies worldwide according to HarperCollins.
The text consists of only ten sentences. It tells the story of Max, who one evening plays around his home, “making mischief” in a wolf costume. As punishment, his mother sends him to bed without supper. In his room, a mysterious, wild forest and sea grows out of his imagination, and Max sails to the land of the Wild Things. The Wild Things are fearsome-looking monsters, but Max conquers them “by staring into their yellow eyes without blinking once”, and he is made “the King of all Wild Things”, dancing with the monsters in a “wild rumpus”. However, he soon finds himself lonely and homesick, and he returns home to his bedroom, where he finds his supper waiting for him, still hot. (source)
